IGEME,
the only non-profit public organization in its field, was established in
1960 with the aim of assisting the foreign enterprises in doing business
with Turkey, while on the other hand supporting Turkish entrepreneurs in
their efforts to export more.
İGEME, with its branch offices home and
abroad, offers a rich variety of activities for the use of Turkish and the
foreign business circles. To ensure speedy service and meet regional needs
and requirements more closely, İGEME has two branch offices in İstanbul
and İzmir. It also has two overseas offices in Rotterdam, the Netherlands
and in Lefkoşe, in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. In addition,
İGEME has local representatives in 13 major cities of Turkey.
İGEME offers quick and accurate
commercial trade information through its rich commercial library,
computerized trade information system and publications.
İGEME’s Trade Information System (TIS)
supplies Turkish trading company registers, world and Turkish trade
statistics, trade inquiries and foreign trade regulations in electronic or
printed form.
İGEME is now hosting and coordinating
the work for setting up Trade Point Ankara as well as the other Trade
Points in Turkey. The “Trade Point Program” was first established by
UNCTAD as a part of its “Trade Efficiency Initiative”. A Trade Point is a
trade facilitation center with the ultimate aim of increasing
participation in international trade and harmonizing trade procedures,
thus bringing down the costs of trade transactions.
In addition, İGEME has its own Web site
(
http://www.igeme.org.tr) and produces home pages and multimedia
catalogues for companies and hosts them on the Internet.
