Statement by H.E. Mr. Ahmet Necdet Sezer, the
President of the Republic of Turkey on the attack in Malatya
I have been deeply grieved by the brutal murder =
of
three persons in Malatya. I strongly condemn this horrible attack targeting=
to destroy
the atmosphere of peace and stability in our country.
There can be no justification of this murder com=
mitted
at a time when we utmost feel the need of peace, brotherhood and
tolerance.
Display of reactions through democratic means wi=
thout
recourse to violence will make the utmost contribution towards the
continuity of the atmosphere =
of
peace and the preservation of Turkey’s international standing as a
country which has adopted contemporary and universal values.
There should not be any doubt that no effort wil=
l be
spared to clarify this attack with all its dimensions.
Hoping that this kind of deplorable events will =
not
recur in the future, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the familie=
s of
the victims.
Statement by H.E. Mr. Abdülkadir Aksu, Minister of Interior of=
the
Republic of Turkey on the attack in Malatya
I am deeply grieved by =
this
incident. Whatever the reason and whoever it is directed at I deplore with
hatred this savagery. This grave incident is an attempt against our unity as
well as against the atmosphere of peace, security, stability and tolerance
prevailing in our country. Again I am condemning those who have perpetrated
this act and strongly deplore it.
Everybody should know t=
hat, those
who want to attain their objectives through violence and terror have always
been defeated and will continue to be defeated.
According to the inform=
ation
received up till now; this grave incident has occurred between 13:20-13:30.=
Our security forces whi=
ch
were in the vicinity of the incident have intervened immediately.
Four suspects together =
with
their crime tools have been captured on the scene.
Another suspect trying =
to
escape by jumping from the balcony who was injur=
ed and
broke his leg has been taken to the hospital.
Two persons at the scen=
e of
the incident have lost their lives and a third person who was heavily injur=
ed
was hospitalized. Despite the necessary medical intervention and operation =
he
has passed away.
I wish God’s merc=
y for those
who lost their lives at the incident and express my profound condolences to=
the
families of the victims.
The Governor, the Chief
Prosecutor, the Chief of Provincial Police and all relevant authorities have
arrived at the crime scene immediately after the incident was brought to th=
eir
knowledge.
The Chief Prosecutor has
right away begun the judicial investigation. The incident is being examined=
and
investigated with all its dimensions.
